Dr. Łukasz Nawrocki, a graduate of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław, defended his doctoral dissertation with honors in 2018 at the Institute of Art History and Conservation of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. His dissertation focused on the reconstruction of Raphael Santi’s painting workshop and physicochemical studies. He is also the author of the publication Rafael Santi. Reconstructions and Studies.

If it exists somewhere, its value exceeds 100 million euros. We are talking about Raphael Santi’s painting “Portrait of a Young Man,” which disappeared in Lower Silesia in 1945, leaving only an empty frame. Today, the reconstructed painting can be seen at the Castle of the Silesian Piasts in Brzeg.

The original painting was stolen from the Collegiate Church in Głogów during the war and is currently in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. So far, the work has not been recovered. Now, thanks to fundraising and the generosity of the people of Głogów, a faithful reconstruction of Lucas Cranach’s Madonna and Child will hang in Głogów’s oldest church.
